January 2008
Welcome to the New Year!
I love starting a new year. It’s the perfect time to take a good look at your life and decide what improvements you want to make. Or to decide whether you want to start doing things differently - which means that now is the time to start breaking free from your anxiety! This month, I look at how you can set some achievable goals to manage your anxiety.
As for me, I’m working hard on two brand new products which I will be launching in the month or two - you will be the first to know and I think you’ll love them!
As always, I hope you find the information in this newsletter useful. If there are any particular questions you would like answered, please email me.
Warm regards,

Realise Your Dream To Beat Anxiety
Well, it’s the start of a New Year and it seems that everyone is talking about the changes they want to make. It’s easy to get caught up in this without considering how you are going to get there! This month, I’m going to look at how you can set goals to realise your dream beat your anxiety. Wouldn’t it be great to look back in December 2008 and celebrate your success?
Step 1 - Break it down!
To maximise your chances of success you will need to look at what makes up your anxiety. It isn’t going to help you if you think of your anxiety as one big problem which is looming in front of you. This will make you feel that the problem is too big and that you can’t cope with it. The trick is to break your anxiety up into smaller blocks so you can deal with one bit at a time. Sit down with a piece of paper and list all the situations or experiences which create anxiety for you. Beside each of these, write down a description such as the time of day, place and feelings associated with your anxiety.
Step 2 - Prioritise!
Now take a look at your list and decide which of these situations/experiences is the most distressing for you. The aim here is to prioritise your list so you can decide which situation/experience you want to deal with first. If you find it difficult to prioritise your list, you could rank your list in order of frequency - which anxious situations occurs the most frequently in your life? Or you could decide to rank your list by the severity of your anxiety symptoms. It’s up to you to decide how you want to prioritise your list.
Step 3 - Plan!
Now you have prioritised your list, select one or two areas that you want to tackle first. For each area, write down all the different anxiety management techniques you could use to help you manage that anxiety. Think carefully and choose one or two techniques that you think will be effective. If you are unable to think of any techniques, take another look at my free e-course. Now think about how often you want to practice those techniques - once a day, twice a day, three times a week? You can now pull that information into a plan - draw up a timetable for a week which shows when and where you are going to practice the techniques you have chosen. Once you are happy with your timetable, make a final timetable for a 4 week period on a piece of paper.
Step 4 - Take action!
Pin your timetable up on the wall where you will see it every day. Using this timetable, you will be taking practical steps to manage your anxiety. And now set a date when you will start - tomorrow is a good day! Once a month has passed, you can decide if you want to keep going with those techniques or whether you want to look at another aspect of your anxiety and maybe add in some new techniques.
Step 5 - Reward yourself!
At the end of the first month, don’t forget to reward yourself with a treat. It takes practice to embed new anxiety management techniques into your lifestyle - you’ve done a great job!
